Apprenticeship training is a unique form of education that incorporates both on-the-job training and technical classroom instruction.
Requirements of the Four-Year Apprenticeship:
- Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and a state issued photo ID. Applicants must apply in person. The four year program is designed for those who are relatively new to the industry. Applicants are expected to pass a math test covering algebra and basic trigonemetric functions prior to acceptance into the program. A math class is provided through the IEC.
- The four year program entails attending class one night a week, plus one to two additional nights per month for hands on training at the IEC lab. The school year is broken down in two semesters beginning in August and ending in May.
- Class sizes are limited, and they are first come, first serve.
- While enrolled, IEC works diligently to place students with a contractor member; however, IEC does not guarantee employment. While employed with an IEC contractor, students will obtain the required on-the-job training hours.
- Upon completion of hours in the field and in the classroom, students will receive certification as a Journeyman Electrician from the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.
